Yamaha FZ6R News

Yamaha FZ6R

Yamaha has just introduced comfort to the commuting sportbike crowd. We’ve seen a lot of price-driven bikes crop up lately - cheaper bikes for a softer market - and Yamaha steps up the plate with a great looking player.
While the sportier FZ6 is still available for the pure more experienced riders with a starting MSRP just $300 higher, the FZ6R dips below the $7000 mark and comes with a new steel chassis and a completely revised and retuned 600cc inline 4-cylinder DOHC powerplant that’s is sure to please many newcomers.

New riders can expect to find an all-new steel frame and swingarm with comfortable and adjustable rider positioning to provide a bike that you won’t soon outgrow. The 30.9-inch saddle seat height (FZ6 is 31.3) can be raised 20mm from the stock position, while the bars can also move 20mm forward by rotating the bar mount columns with the included tool kit. Compared to the FZ6 model, the handlebar is 12mm rearward and 12mm lower. The seat position is 4mm forward and 2mm lower than the FZ6.
Efficiency runs deeper than just through your wallet. When compared to FZ6, the 6R gets 8% better fuel economy thanks in part to its 4mm smaller throttle bodies and milder state of tune, plus the narrower 160mm rear tire compared to the 180 on the FZ6. A freshly engineered clutch (inner push type versus outer pull) and new crankcase castings are also part of the FZ6R. Despite being 8 lbs heavier (11 pounds in Cali), the FZ6R is said to get 43 mpg versus the 40 mpg of the FZ6.

2011 Honda CB1000R Specs News and Review

The CB1000R is a new take on a timeless concept. A no-nonsense superbike thats not afraid to show off its muscle where everyone can see it. We took a CBR1000RR powerplant—and retuned it for even more midrange power and torque. Then we built a special chassis that puts the engine out front and center, and that also lets you sit more upright. The result is one of the most versatile open-class bikes the world has ever seen. And also one of the best looking.
The new CB1000R is built around a superbike-strong 998cc DOHC inline four engine. Basically, we took a CBR1000RR powerplant and retuned it to deliver a bare-knuckle blast of power thats perfect for street riding, with plenty of torque and power on tap. Since its a four cylinder, its plenty smooth for longer rides too.
The new CB1000R is a perfect example of Honda innovation. Combining power, light weight, and refined, responsive handling with its good looks, it’s equally at home on a sportbike ride, a weekend-long getaway, or a boulevard prowl.
The CB1000R offers exceptional handling, thanks to a Gravity Die Cast mono-backbone aluminum chassis thats light and strong, a fully-adjustable inverted fork, and adjustable Pro Link® rear suspension with a single-sided swing armThe Honda CB1000R is available on spring 2011 . 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 Review

2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848
After Asphalt & Rubber first announced the bike back in July, the 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 has finally made its official debut (with a little teaser help from Nicky Hayden). Expanding Ducati’s Streetfighter brand to now include two bikes (we’ll have to wait a little longer for the 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 1198), the 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 is certainly not a shocking release. True to the streetfighter movement’s ethos, the 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 is a stripped-down version of the Superbike 848, with a twist.
Ducati confirms its new Streetfighter will source the 848 Testastretta 11 engine found in the 848 supersport. The Ducati 848 EVO powerplant turned the MotoUSA dyno up to 119 rear wheel horsepower and 63 lb-ft torque during our 2011 Supersport Shootout. Those 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 EVO power stats figure to drop slightly, however, as Ducati says of the L-Twin that it has “enriched its user-friendliness with a smooth and flexible power delivery.”

Even reckoning a dip in peak power numbers for street-friendly tuning, the 848 Streetfighter figures to outclass current middleweight naked rivals, like the BMW F800R and Yamaha FZ8 – neither of which crested 100 hp or 60 lb-ft when tested during our 2-3-4 Middleweight Street Bike Comparison.
Spec sheet details are fleeting, though the 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 will employ more street-friendly ergonomics than its supersport kin. The Ducati-standard steel trellis frame is visible, along with components like an adjustable inverted fork and radial-mount Brembo brakes. The chassis rolls on Diablo Rosso Corsa tires.
Available in November 2011 in Europe and January 2012 in North America, the 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 comes in traditional Ducati Rosso Corsa, matte-black, and also brings back the Ducati yellow color scheme. Details surely to follow soon.
